Three in four visitors to our beauty directory arrive from ChatGPT
In one September week, 333 of 436 plausible human pageviews on our beauty and wellness directory arrived from ChatGPT. The people, not the bots, and the pages they landed on.

The finding
The beauty and wellness directory is the clearest case in the network: 76% of its plausible human pageviews in the week arrived from ChatGPT, almost all of them geolocated in Australia. The pages they landed on were specific: makeup artists in Maroochydore, makeup artists on the Sunshine Coast, curly-hair specialists, barbers, and individual business profiles.
The dining directory saw 153 AI-attributed pageviews of 587, spread across suburb and occasion pages: coffee in Newtown, brunch in Springwood, date night in Southbank. The trades directory took 30 of 343 from ChatGPT.
Why most measurement undercounts it
ChatGPT and Copilot send no referrer header at all. They identify themselves only with a tag on the link. Any measurement that reads the header alone files these arrivals as direct traffic and reports roughly half the true figure. Our classifiers read both, with a strict rule: a tag may fill the silence left by a missing header, and may never overrule one.
What it means for a business
An assistant does not just read our pages. It sends people to them, and the pages it sends people to are the specific ones: a service, in a place. A business whose record on that page is complete is the business the visitor calls. A business with a name and nothing else is the one they scroll past.
How to read the numbers
Pageviews are not unique people; the identifiers rotate daily by design. Arrivals are not enquiries or bookings. And a week is a week: we publish this as a measured moment, not a run rate.
| Directory | Plausible human pageviews | Arrived from an assistant | Share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hair, beauty and wellness | 436 | 333 | 76% |
| Restaurants, cafes and bars | 587 | 153 | 26% |
| Trades and home services | 343 | 30 | 9% |
Method
Pageviews from a browser that ran the site’s measurement script, filtered to exclude flagged automation, faceless clients and known distorted days. An arrival is attributed to an assistant when the browser sent a recognised referrer host or the link carried the assistant’s own tag, which is how ChatGPT and Copilot identify their outbound links. Window: 2026-09-10 to 2026-09-16. Attribution is per pageview, not per person.
